Abstract:

This paper describes the construction of computable audio descriptors capable of modeling relevant high-level perceptual qualities of textural sounds. These qualities - all metaphoric bipolar and continuous constructs - have been identified in previous research: high-low, ordered-chaotic, smooth-coarse, tonal-noisy, and homogeneous-heterogeneous, covering timbral, temporal and structural properties of sound.
